About your Captain:

Being the son of a Navy man we moved a lot growing up. In fact I can count up 17 different schools I went to by the time I graduated college. The benefit of all that travel was fishing in many places including the East Coast, West Coast, Hawaii, Australia, and Alaska. I truly love to fish.

I moved to Alaska in 1990 after graduating from Northern Arizona University. After a short time stint with an insurance company I was able to pursue my dream of being a captain and fishing guide starting in 1993. I now have over 1500 launches on Cook Inlet.

I started fishing Cook Inlet by beach launching Zodiaks with a bunch of Alaskan friends. I truly thank them for taking me and teaching me about the tides and how to catch halibut. They were and still are definite hard cores who go for it Alaskan style like few others I have ever known.

I have been living in Ninilchik full time since 1997. I love the area and the community. I am involved in the community including coaching basketball in the winter.

In 2002 I undertook building my own house. I had the help of my Uncle, Bud Van Saun, and great friends Harold Kottre and Gary Sieg. Their average age was 69. It was like having three chiefs and one Indian. I loved every minute of it. Thanks to all of them for making such a difference in my life.

On December 12th 2004 I married an amazing young lady from Texas, Kate Alexander. It is a huge blessing to have someone to share this life with. (funny how not long after getting running water I finally got a woman to agree to marry me) Kate is an incredible lady. She has been a real trooper adopting the Alaskan lifestyle. Along with Kate came a very special family and extended family. I am so thankful to have all of them in my life.
In 2004 I was given the honor of being a Representative for the International Game Fish Association. I am also a member of the Deep Creek Charter Association, National Association of Charter Boat Operators and Tournament Anglers Association.

Besides the fishing I do on Cook Inlet I fish all over the Kenai Peninsula. I love the pursuit of the big king salmon on the Kenai River. I also fish a 20 pound test catch and release sailfish tournament in Ixtapa Mexico every year. Kate and I enjoy fishing the local rivers for Kings, Silvers, Reds, and Trout. In my travels I try to work in a fishing trip everywhere I can.

Besides fishing I love all kinds of adventure. I really enjoy hunting both rifle and archery. I have very special friends in Kansas I get to visit and hunt with each year.

Kate and her twin sister Carrie are amazing dancers. They have a deep love for good country/honky tonk music. I am learning to Dance. We have some good friends in the music industry including Dale Watson and The Derailers. You can check them out on-line. We also have an very special circle of friends that love to two step and swing dance in the Austin area. We spend a few weeks a year there enjoying time with them, dancing and great music.

Who knows what the future holds for us. But, we sure are thankful for the life we have been blessed with and the time we get to share with you.
